Do you provide food?
Students bring a daily snack and lunch from home. We are a nut free school. We provide the food for all kitchen activities, which will take place twice a week.
What if my child gets hurt?
We have an onsite nurse who will tend to sick students or ones that are injured. Any student with a fever is sent home. We try to keep children as safe as possible, however accidents do happen. If they trip or get hurt, we will inform parents right away.
How many students and teachers in a class?
Please view our schedule and academic calendars page on this website for more information.
What is the difference between Reggio and other nurseries?
We have an educated staff who specialize in early childhood education. We also have small class sizes that allow us to give individualized instruction. We don’t have a one size fits all approach. Teachers at KRC try to work with each student and give them the special attention they deserve. We are also constantly updating our practices by participating in professional development. This lets us keep up to date and be the best educators we can be. Kuwait Reggio Center is also very lucky to have spacious, beautiful facilities. Our outdoor area has a beautiful garden, water play area, jungle gym, and sand box.
What curriculum do you use?
We follow the milestones and standards from the Department of Education of Massachusetts (common core) and pair it with the Reggio Emilia philosophy of teaching. The Reggio Emilia philosophy follows the interests of the child, values community and social experiences, encourages children to ask questions, and uses hands on learning.
What will happen when I bring my child? What if he cries?
It is perfectly normal for students to cry at the beginning of the school year. Starting school is a big transition for them! It is something that they must get used to. At Kuwait Reggio Center, we want to make the transition from home to school as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We have a settling in period that allows students to come visit the school with their children to see the facilities and meet the staff. This time allows students to learn that the school is a safe environment and that mom and dad trust the teachers. Once the regular school days start, students really have a chance to bond with their teachers and classmates and learn that the school is their space. During this time there might be crying, but it is best to let them become independent and take ownership of the school. If a student cries for more than 20 minutes, we will always call to let you know and you will have the option to pick them up early if you want to.  Usually after a week or two, the students are comfortable and walk happily into the school. They might even love it so much, that they will want to come on the weekend too! Once everyone is fully settled and in the school routine we will begin to invite parent-volunteers into the classroom to help with an array of projects!
Can I come see my child during the day or stay in the class?
For the first week you are invited to come with your child for the settling in period, but after that, we ask that you stay out of the classroom for one month while your child settles in. After the first month of settling in, parents are welcomed back into the classrooms to volunteer. They could lead a cooking class, participate in an art project, read a story, or join the class for a special event. We really want to build a strong community and we love parent volunteers!

Do you accept special needs?
It will depend on the severity of the special needs. We believe in integrated classes, which means special needs students are in mainstream classes, with extra support if they need it. If you have a child with special needs, and you are interested in enrolling in our school, please contact the curriculum coordinator by email cassidy@kuwaitreggiocenter.com and she will get in touch with you to discuss your options.
How do you do the bilingual program?
There are two co-teachers. One head teacher is a native Arabic speaker and will lead the class in simple Fosha. The other head teacher is a native English speaker and will lead the class in English. They work together to do lesson plans and document student learning. During the day, they co-teach and speak in both languages. It is a very fluid and natural way to learn the languages.
Does the English program have ANY Arabic?
No. The English only classes are taught solely in English.
Do you have field trips?
We do have field trips during the year for our oldest classes. The field trips will be dependent on what students are learning. For example, one class might go to the aquarium and another may visit a fire station. We also bring the field trips to the school! For example, this year we had Kuwait Riding Center bring ponies for the students to ride and another time we had the Kuwait Zoo bring a mini petting zoo!
Do you have cameras?
We have CCTV, however parents do not have access to it. Some parents are not comfortable with the idea that anyone can see their child on screen and we agree with this. Instead, we will send each parent individual photos and videos of their child through an app called BrightWheel.
How do I get updates about my child?
We have an app called BrightWheel that allows us to send pictures, videos, notes and reports to parents. You can also message the teacher directly using the app and the teacher will be able to respond easily. Parents also receive emails and newsletters from teachers. Twice a year we send out student progress reports and hold parent-teacher conferences. If you have any concerns, or a teacher believes a private meeting is necessary, we will schedule an additional parent-teacher meeting based on need. Finally, you are always welcome to speak to the teacher at drop off or pick up.
